Upcoming weekends

At the last Secretariat meeting, held at St. Crispin's January 25/26, we decided to hold two weekends in the Fall (pending space available). The first, a co-ed weekend, will occur September 17-20. Lay Rector will be Bud Johnson, Assistant Lay Rector Dion Crider. The second weekend will follow one week later: September 24-27, it will be Hispanic, and will be led by Lay Rector Cuco Escalero; his assistant is not yet known. These will be #s 117 and 118. First, though, we need to concentrate on #116, scheduled March 27-30. The Lay Rector is Glen Boyer, St. Andrew's, Lawton, who replaces Lauri Watkins.

Please note that a Day of Deeper Understanding will be held on April 26th, 2008, at Emmanuel, Shawnee. We hope that the new Cursillistas and many 'old' ones will attend. DDU starts at 10 a.m. and should be over by 3:00 p.m.

The new 'digs' at St. Crispin's are wonderful and will serve Cursillo weekends very well. We think that conference room A will be the Rollo room; conference room B will be the chapel; conference room C will be Palanca chapel; and conference room D will be the Team room. The new 'lounge,' which has a full kitchen, will serve well for the Agape meal...unless they fill it with a bunch of tables and utilities. We will continue to eat in the old dining room, and the 'old' lounge will be available for evening programs.

It appears that the rates for Cursillo weekends at St. Crispin's will rise. We don't yet know the new rate schedule. If you have "extra money," please remember that Cursillo is always seeking money for scholarships.

DeColores!
Bud

Correction of previous blog

In my previous comments, I said something like: "This Bishop is very supportive of the Cursillo movement." What I should have said, and I do apologize for a bad choice of words, is this: "The Cursillo Movement in Oklahoma has had wonderful support in the past from Bishop Moody, and I'm pleased that Bishop Ed will continue that ardent support."

On another matter, I specified that meetings of the Cursillo Secretariat would take place at Church of the Resurrection in Oklahoma City. That is NOT the case anymore. All 2008 meetings will take place at St. Mary's church in Edmond, OK. If you don't know where St. Mary's is located, call a Secretariat member or check with Mapquest.

And, finally, we encourage ALL Cursillistas to come to the Secretariat meetings. These meetings are not just for "the privileged few." We welcome and encourage attendance; the more, the merrier! This movement belongs to you, and if you're not present when decisions are made, we all lose out.

News from the Scretariat

Some members of the Secretariat were pleased to meet with Bishop Ed on Monday afternoon, November 26. We explained the current state of the Cursillo movement in Oklahoma (struggling) and the reasons we felt this was so. We asked for a "bishop presence" at Clausuras, for more priestly involvement, and for direction. The Bishop told us that he was unaware of which priests had "made their Cursillo," but that he would inquire, in the course of inquiring about other things. He told us that he knew that Cursillo in OKlahoma was struggling, but thought we could get it going if we pointed our movement in the correct direction. One of those directions, he thought, was continued involvement of the Hispanic community in the movement. He is very positive about Cursillo, and thinks that it is a wonderful way to bring people into a relationship with Christ. He stressed, however, that it is NOT the only way. The Cursillo method has been proven very effective in developing that relationship, and he thinks that's another point we need to stress. Bishop Ed liked the idea of Cursillo putting articles into Oklahoma's Mission ("there's always space to fill.") and asked that we forward articles to him so that he could see the content (this was done with the first article and the Bishop made some corrections) All in all, we came away from the meeting much encouraged. This Bishop will be proactive for Cursillo. Attendees: Bud Johnson, Dion Crider, Glen Boyer, Mother Stephanie Swinnea

On another front, please remember the co-ed Cursillo scheduled for March 27-30. This weekend will be led by Lauri Watkins, St. Luke's, Bartlesville. Find candidates, tell them all about the weekend, and encourage them to use the weekend to begin their personal journey with Christ, or to deepen one already begun. Please pray for both candidates and team. Members of the team are not yet known.

Bishop Ed told us that, though theoretically next year's House of Bishops meeting has been postponed because of the Lambeth Convention, in fact the HOB WILL meet. The Secretariat will try to schedule both the Hispanic weekend and the next co-ed weekend at times when the Bishop will be "in town" for both Clausuras. This probably means that the 3rd weekend in September, which traditionally has been the date for a Cursillo weekend, will not be so in 2008.

Dates for the 2008 Secretariat meetings are set:

January 25/26 (overnight) St. Crispin's. Make reservations soon. Dinner at 7:00 p.m., meeting afterwards until compline. Breakfast the next day, more meeting, closing with Holy Eucharist shortly after 11:00 a.m. Contact Bud Johnson, 405-606-1942 to reserve a spot.

March 8. 10:00 a.m. starting time. Location: Church of the Resurrection, OKC

May 10. 10:00 a.m. starting time. Location: Church of the Resurrection, OKC

July 12. 10:00 a.m. starting time. Location: Church of the Resurrection, OKC

September 13. 10:00 a.m. starting time. Location: Church of the Resurrection, OKC

November 8. 10:00 a.m. starting time. Location: Church of the Resurrection, OKC. We will elect officers at this meeting.

Please note that we encourage all Cursillistas to attend the Secretariat meetings. If you don't attend, you won't know what's happening in Cursillo....unless you're willing to help publish The Rooster Tale.

The Secretariat is always looking for a few willing helpers. You don't have to do all the work, just some of it. It's not any harder than what you do for your own church.

Clausura #115

Hola Amigos,

The Clausura en Espanol went very well, including the bilingual eucharist, only the fourth or fifth I've attended in my life. The Spirit was abundant, y la musica muy bonita. Obispo Ed is due to visit Santa Maria on the 30th, and I think there may be an Ultreya following that afternoon.

Ultreya,

Clausura

Clausura went well, with standing room only in the St. Crispin's dining hall. The bishop and Lance spoke a few minutes and shared encouraging words. There was also news announced that there would be a Spanish language Cursillo in September. Evidently a rector has already been selected, and a number of possible team members have attended recent Spanish Cursillos in Texas. More news coming...
